News: First Batch of Attack on Titan Cast Revealed

Via their blog, FUNimation has revealed the first batch of voice actors for a few of the rolls in Attack on Titan.  Subscribers got the news and a sneak peak of the dub early.  More of the cast will be given out to the public as Anime Boston nears.  The English dub is due to premiere during the convention, which takes place March 21 - 23.  Also, the company detailed what items will be included in the Collector's and Limited editions of the DVD.  They are exclusively available at FUNimation's online store.

Cast Revealed:
Character/Actor
  • Keith - Patrick Seitz
  • Moses - Jeff Johnson
  • Erwin - J. Michael Tatum
  • Marco - Austin Tindle
  • Carla - Jessica Cavanagh
  • Grisha - Chris Hury
  • Hannes - David Wald

I called it!  I had a feeling that Tatum (Doumeki in xxxHolic, Isaac in Baccano!) would be dubbing the character named Erwin, the leader of the Survey Corps. in the series.  Seeing Seitz (Sloth in FMA: Brotherhood, Charles Beams in Eureka 7) on the list is reassuring as well; he has a lot of talent and roles under his belt.  We most likely won't see any of the major characters' voices until the day before the convention.  FUNimation has a good selection of voice actors that can fulfill the demanding acting that this show entails.  I think Wendy Powell (Envy in FMA) could do wonderfully as Annie, and it wouldn't be a FUNi dub without a place for R. Bruce Elliot somewhere.  He could play the judge at the military tribunal.

I'm trying to predict who they'll pick for Eren, Armin, and Mikasa, the hardest characters to cast.  Eren is a a little harder for me to pin down, but with some adjustments, Joel McDonald (Jacuzzi Splot in Baccano!) could possibly pull off Armin.  I picture Jerry Jewell (Kyo in Fruits Basket, Claire in Baccano!) being a pretty decent voice for Jean, too.  Regardless of my preferences and predictions, time and additional announcements will reveal who voices who.

Details on the different DVD editions can be found on FUNimation's original blog post.
