News: Four Persona Games Coming to North America

Fans of Atlus and their unique video games will be pleased to hear this latest news.  Atlus USA has confirmed that their most recently announced four games of the Persona series will be coming to North America.  Two will be on the PS3, one on the 3DS, and another on the PS Vita consoles.

  • Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth (3DS)

This game will feature a crossover between the Persona 3 and Persona 4 casts.  The two groups of friends must team up to solve the mystery of Yasogami High's clock tower.  Gameplay is said to be similar to the Etrian Odyssey series, which has first person exploration and mapping of dungeons.  A lot of fans will be happy with the return of the main protagonist from Persona 3, which had a more tragic end in the original game.  I wonder if it will be explained how he's present in the story.  This game will be Atlus's first time bringing a Persona game to a Nintendo platform.

It's due out in Fall 2014.

  • Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PS3, Xbox360)
This will be the sequel to Persona 4 Arena, which I heard ended in somewhat of a cliffhanger or with much more to explain in the story.  So, those who are curious will want to head to stores this fall to pick up their copies.  The original roster of fighters from Persona 3 and Persona 4 return.  A couple of new fighters have been announced: Yukari Takeba and Junpei Iori.  There will be a new antagonist named Sho Minazuki.  The first game featured deep fighting mechanics not meant for the faint of heart, and I have no doubt that the same will be said for this sequel.

  • Persona 4: Dancing All Night (PS Vita)
Dancing All Night will be waltzing its ways into store in 2015.  If the title didn't give it away already, it is a rhythm game for the PlayStation Vita.  The characters from Persona 4 will be taking center on the "Midnight Stage," which is hosted by Risette.  For some reason, the traditional methods to fighting shadows doesn't work too well anymore, so our beloved will have to dance their way to victory.  I'm not sure how well this will sell in the States; I'd be more interested in getting something with potentially deeper story.  However, Atlus knows how to market and sell their games.  Who am I to doubt?

  • Persona 5 (PS3)
This has to be the most anticipated Persona announcement to date.  Expected to come out in 2015, a main iteration in the Persona universe will most likely feature creating social links and fighting shadows.  As is usual in their main games, I predict the story will involve saving the world in some capacity.  Not much has been revealed about this title; Atlus launched a cryptic teaser trailer for it a while back.  It showed five school chairs with balls and chains attached to the legs.  No characters or other details were provided.

Many will be waiting in great anticipation for additional news about each title.  Even since I played Persona 3 for the PS2, I have always loved the rich world and characters featured in every installment.  I'm looking forward to all these releases, even though I may not play all of them.  I'm glad Atlus's Persona series seems to be remaining strong in popularity not just in Japan but in North America as well.
